Saturday was amazing weather wise. A certain change from our constant drizzly cold weather with the frequent torrential downpours we have been having.
A great day to work in the yard or on the farm an even better day to take in the local rodeo.
Those of us here at Vicktory Farm and Gardens aren’t extreme rodeo fans, we don’t know the riders, or their stats, no one in the family competes. (Well, Bet would love to be a barrel racer.)
And when we like something we like to share it.
So on Saturday we took the Coulters to the Roy Rodeo arena for a bit of country style entertainment.
It sure brings a lot of adrenaline to the party.
Lots of adrenaline, not sure I would be so willing to let my highschool aged, let alone junior high aged, son ride bulls.
Not that horse hooves couldn’t do you damage.
But horns and a determination to take out the rider, and or clown, just adds a touch eh?
And what crazy nut-job signs up to be a rodeo clown?
I remember going to the Omak Stampede many times with my father when I was a little girl with a horse of my own. He would constantly remind me whether directly or just in his random comments made during the rodeo of how essential the rodeo clowns are and how not clownish they really are.
Bring on the bulls and head protection.
But really for me I like the bareback and broncs. They remind me of rodeos of the past.
and what the heck, I like horses. Not all that fond of cattle. ‘Specially bulls. But give me a speedy horse or even a fiesty buckin’ horse to grab onto.
The barrels, the broncs, the drill team, the flag, all very nostalgic for me, bringin back days of good things, days when men were men, women were women and men didn’t let their women walk around half naked with their tattoos and all hangin’ out.
The shade of a big tree over the bull pen, just some things that make me feel warm and secure in the midst of crazy moderness. And to top it all off…
My best friend from high school, that would be jr. high as well as sr. high, and her husband, were in the stands right by us, so they joined us in enjoying the day, double bonus.
Hi Lanny, Looks to have been a fine day for a Rodeo! When I used to work part time as a EMT, I did lots of Rodeos..and took my share of clowns into the ER. And I mean the real clowns too! I don’t know all that falling off cannot be good, especially when you get older, and all those young cowboys will be old limping cowboys. I think I can still feel when I tumbled off the horses when I was a teenager.
What kind of flowers are you using for the wedding? Beside purty ones?
Hey Lanny, Beautiful pictures! The day looks lovely to share the rodeo with friends. I’ve never been to a rodeo. We have a farm nearby with miniature horses that are so cute – I never have my camera with me when they are close enough to get photos – maybe one day soon.
Looks like you had quite a day, Lanny. Lots to see and lots of excitement going on. And how perfect to find your friends there as well! Such a pretty blue sky!
Hi Lanny and hello girls, To answer your question: yah I probably do talk a little bit like that Tapioca lady Blanche Gunderson in the movie “New in Town” I watched it with the grand girls and we laughed and laughed. If you saw “Fargo” they portray all the yah ‘s and U betchas a bit much..another good Minnesota movie is Grumpy Old Men..up here it is so cold most of the year that we have to have something to laugh about..so we laugh at ourselves! If I ever come out that way, I am going to stop and visit and you all can decide for yourselves:)
Splendid weather for a rodeo outing – I do like bull riding so agree with Dirt on that one. Mostly it is the all out atmosphere of this here is the WEST I enjoy – too much homogenizing of the country I think. Regional differences are part of why Americans are so darned quirky. I like quirky – thanks for sharing your outing with us – glad you had a day to dry out too!weatherwise
Wasn’t that clear day nice? We worked like crazy people trying to pull the farm together. Your day at the Rodeo looks like fun! I like the rodeo..but don’t like the wild horse stampede. It’s just too much wildness and too many injuries. I wish everyone would wear a helmet! Cool cowboy’s wouldn’t do that!
Fun day at the rodeo! I was driving thru McKenna that day and the place was PACKED! Cars in every parking lot. What the heck? I said to the kids – Is someone famous visiting little old McKenna? Then that night I remembered it was Rodeo week. =) Cute thing – when asked by my Uncle Thom what his grandson ( Brad’s boy ) wants to be when he grows up he answered ” A rodeo clown.” Much to the surprise of his mommy and daddy. I said to Brad – at least he has realistic goals for the future. =) No doctoring or lawyering or presidenting for him! Althought there could be some hosipitalizing if he reaches his career aspirations.
We love the rodeo! A couple months ago, we took the kids to a rodeo at our local fair grounds. Not a huge event but fun and exciting anyway. We were sitting in the front row of the bleachers….. Dad and the boys eatin’ away on some nasty carnival-style nachos. The bull busted out of his gate with the rider and spun our direction, kicking up dirt (and who knows what else!) and the bull’s foaming slobber slinging all over. Some landed right in the cheese on the nachos. Ryan looks at me with this funny look and says, “OOOKkk……. I guess I’m done with these.”
Rodeos………. definitely memories in the making.
Oh, forgot to mention that Kyle (my daredevil, not afraid of anything child) decided he would like to ride bulls some day. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! was my reaction!
Is that sunshine I see? I’m sure if I remember what it looks like, a sunny day, that is.
